Names are tricky. Most research organizations are named after a medical condition or a family member, and we’re neither. What we kept coming back to was the plainest description of what everyone here is doing — the science itself, and getting to it sooner.

Doing Science makes grants through private charitable foundations. We make a small number of grants each year to investigators whose next step is clear and whose funding for it isn’t. Our role is practical: capital at the right moment, direct feedback on the work, and a place among a small group of promising researchers doing promising things.
